Anouck Manzoni’s works resonate with the geology and palaeontology collections at the Lodève Museum. Created through a process of sedimentation, they explore slow temporalities and transformations of matter that echo those at work in geological phenomena. Somewhere between deposit and imprint, they give form to a material shaped by the passage of time, evoking plant, mineral or cosmic traces.
Anouck Manzoni is a visual artist who lives and works in Montpellier. This autumn, she has been invited by the Lodève Museum to exhibit around twenty works in the graphic arts gallery and in selected rooms of the museum’s permanent exhibitions.
Through a process of sedimentation, Anouck Manzoni creates a medium based on inks and pigments that forms ‘Rhizomes’. In their book "Mille plateaux", Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari describe the structure of the rhizome: without beginning, without end, without layers. The same applies, according to the artist, to nature: the elements of the matrix have no hierarchy; each thing is a part of the whole. Much like the Rorschach test or pareidolia, her drawings and paintings on paper appeal to the collective unconscious. They invite the viewer to engage in introspection, to seek out their essence and their deepest nature. Anouck Manzoni explores our relationship with living things and the interconnection of all elements, without any hierarchy whatsoever.
